If you cannot decide, you go to Ernie's Bar & Grill. It sits inside the Tournament Clubhouse overlooking the Nicklaus Tournament Course, and it runs the longest hours of any spot on the property, with breakfast, bar, lunch, and dinner service stacked back to back from 7 a.m. straight through 8 p.m. It handles sunrise mimosas and formal wine pairings with the same shrug, which is the whole point. Last year the City of La Quinta named Ernie's its 2025 Restaurant of the Year, which is not a small thing in a valley with no shortage of golf course dining rooms competing for that title.
The patio has two gas fire pits and a dog-friendly policy, so it doubles as the answer to "I want to bring the dog and I don't want to plan anything." It is also the busiest room on the property every January during The American Express, since the patio looks straight down the Stadium and Nicklaus Tournament courses. The rest of the year it is simply the place people default to when nobody has a stronger opinion, and that reliability is the actual amenity.
Wallaby's West sits inside the Greg Norman Clubhouse, built in an Australian ranch style with a sunken patio, flagstone fireplaces, and wrought iron lanterns that keep the lighting low enough to feel like an evening rather than an errand. It is also, by a wide margin, the most remote clubhouse on the property. Longtime members joke about needing GPS the first few times, and that distance is part of why it functions as a destination rather than a stop.
The clubhouse runs happy hours, themed dining nights, and wine dinners on a recurring basis throughout the year, with Thursday carrying the weekly happy hour tradition and rotating live music. If the question you are actually asking is "where is there going to be a scene tonight," Wallaby's is the answer nine months out of twelve. It is not the place for a quick in-and-out meal. It is the place you plan the evening around.
The Pete Dye Clubhouse reopened in January 2023 after a full renovation, and the addition that actually changed how people use the space was not the redesigned golf shop. It was two Trackman 4 simulators installed in private bays off the new bar and lounge. PGA West's simulator network is now one of the largest Trackman installations in North America, and the two bays at the Bunker Bar let up to eight people at a time play more than 200 courses around the world, including three of PGA West's own, without setting foot outside in July.
Rates run $50 to $100 an hour depending on the bay and time, which is less than the cost of most private events elsewhere on the property and covers the whole group, not per person. Hours shift by day: weekdays close at 2 p.m., while Friday through Sunday the bar and simulators stay open until 5 p.m. The clubhouse's operations manager, Nick Ruane, put it simply when the room opened:
"You can control the firmness of the greens, the speed of your ball's roll, and even the weather conditions, from rain and wind to clouds and the clear blue skies that typically surround PGA WEST."
That last detail is the joke locals appreciate most. The simulator lets you dial in the one thing the desert never gives you a choice about outdoors. On a 114-degree afternoon, the Bunker Bar is not a fallback. It is the plan.
Not every visit needs a kitchen with a name attached. The Sports Club is a four-acre facility built around the parts of daily life that have nothing to do with a tee time: a resort-style pool with 25-meter lap lanes, bocce and pétanque courts, a drive-in movie screen, and Peaks Bar and Grill serving poolside. Next door sits Private Paws WEST, the community's dedicated dog park, which turns a pool afternoon into a full outing without requiring a reservation anywhere.
This is the low-key answer. Nobody dresses up for the Sports Club. Nobody plans a week around it. It absorbs the ordinary Tuesday afternoons that the other three clubhouses were never built to hold, and that is exactly its job.
For members who carry Citrus Club privileges alongside their PGA West membership, there is a fifth option that rarely gets mentioned because it is not trying to be noticed. The Citrus Clubhouse is built in Spanish Colonial style, with archways and the signature blue trim that gives it a storybook quality against the mountain backdrop. The grill room opens onto a patio for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it functions as the daily, unhurried option for members who already have Citrus access through their membership tier. It is not competing for anyone's Thursday night. It is there for the Tuesday morning that just needs a table by a window.
Here is the actual takeaway, and it is worth sitting with for a second. PGA West did not end up with four restaurants that happen to be different. The property specialized on purpose, over years, as each clubhouse got renovated or repositioned: Pete Dye's clubhouse became the answer to heat, Wallaby's leaned into nightlife because its remoteness gave it permission to, Ernie's stayed the reliable all-day room because its location and hours support it, and the Sports Club absorbed the amenity needs that don't require a kitchen at all.
That is a different story than "PGA West has great dining options," which is the sentence you will read on every generic guide to the community. The real pattern is that you are not choosing a favorite. You are matching a mood to a room that was built for exactly that mood. Once that clicks, the weekly question of where to go stops being a question and starts being a lookup.
